Google – one corporation, unlimited possibilities

150x551The understanding of social media and online networking is becoming a crucial aspect of a public relations professional’s training. I recently did a great deal of research on Google and the many applications available to the masses.  Google has effectively taken over much of the internet, and this superpower will continue to grow with time.

The most useful app I stumbled upon this week is Google Calendar. It is a great organizer and the set-up is standard -quick, easy and painless. The best part? This calendar is available anywhere, anytime (with internet access). I was happy to discover that I could also connect Google Calendar with my Google Gmail account. If an email I receive mentions an event, I can add it to my personal calendar with the click of a button. My favorite feature of this online wonder is the ability to share my calendar with others. I can make any event public (or private). I can also compare my friends’ or co-workers’ calendars side-by-side. This would be especially useful for a company to use to keep everyone on the same page. My ONLY complaint is that I have to manually change the time of the event if it is not on the hour or half-hour. (I’m reaching here – I am quite fond of this application, and I will continue to use this app in the future)
